Mr. Peabody and Sherman.....Learning to create SVG Files

A couple of months ago, I took my son to see the new Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie.  Which, by the way, was a really cute movie.  We always take his picture in front of the movie posters that line the outside of the theater, and I use that picture in my scrapbook.  My son really likes looking back and seeing the things that we have done together.

When it was time to scrapbook this one, I was having trouble coming up with ideas.  Since I just bought my explore, I though "oh, if I can find SVG files of Mr. Peabody and Sherman, I can cut them out, and that would make a great scrapbook page."  The problem was that I could not find an SVG file of them.  So, I asked around, and I was given a couple of great ideas on how I could make my own.  I tried using the Design Space software, but they came out all wrong. Then I tried using a converter, but still it wasn't right.  Then someone suggested that I try Inkscape.

When I first looked at Inkscape I was a bit afraid of it.  It looked
complicated, and this is coming from someone who, I feel, is pretty good with programs such as Photoshop, Gimp, and Roxio.  I just didn't know what to do with it.  On one of my Facebook groups, I found a link to the Crafts by Two blog. It was like hitting the jackpot, their videos walk you through the steps, and it was really not too bad.  My biggest problem was thinking through the "layers" that I wanted to cut, but I think it worked out pretty well.

After watching all the videos and taking notes.  I did a Google search for "Mr. Peabody and Sherman Coloring Book pages," and I found the image to the left at www.coloringpage.org.  The GIF file is below if you want to download it.  I was looking for something with simple lines and a basic background.

I wanted to share my adventure with all of you, and share my SVG files as well.  If you choose to use them, please  remember that they are not perfect, there are a lot of small pieces, some of which I did not use, and for example, Sherman's neck cut out a little funny, and I can't figure out how to fix it.   I would also love it if you would comment on how you plan to use the files and become a follower of my blog.  Enjoy!!!
